Creating Your Fall Retreat

Fall's evening and morning temperatures nip at our toes, and a chill in the air visits us as we sleep. It's a delightful time to snuggle into a warm and cozy bed. Changing your bedding is a perfect way to change with the seasons and make the focal point of the bedroom a special retreat.

To create your fall and winter wonderland, use elegant bedding by investing in a soft and fluffy comforter, high quality sheets made of silk or cotton and a dust ruffle. Purchase bedding in the pattern or color scheme of your choosing, but consider moving towards warmer, deeper colors during these cooler seasons. Gold, red, burgundy, smoky-blue are good choices.

Use throw pillows to decorate your bed and make it look spectacular. You can purchase throw pillows in many shapes including squares, rectangles, circles, and bolsters. Look for throw pillows in a wide variety of colors and textures to compliment your look.

Choose sheets for comfort. Cotton sheets are the most popular, though you may prefer a cotton/flannel mixture during colder months. Thread count per inch is an important factor to be considered while buying bed sheets. The higher the thread count the softer and more luxurious the material. To add touch of elegance, place the flat sheet's printed side down so that the design will be seen when folded over.

Take your time choosing a pillow. Choosing the right pillow is almost as important as choosing the correct mattress. Pillows filled with down will hold their shape and plumpness longer that foam filled pillows. They are also more comfortable to lie on because they conform to the shape of your head and neck. For greater firmness you need a pillow that is stuffed with the most feathers. If you suffer from allergies you will need a pillow with synthetic filling. The best synthetic pillows are filled with latex foam.
